Who Should Do This Course? 

Liquor licensees, approved managers, and all prospective managers of licensed venues.

The RMLV certificate is not required for Restaurant and Café type liquor licensed venues in most cases. If you are unsure about whether you need to complete RMLV training, consult with OLGR QLD.

Course Description

To obtain a liquor licence, the Commissioner for Liquor and Gaming must be satisfied that a proposed licensee or approved manager has an appropriate level of knowledge and understanding of their obligations under the Liquor Act.

The Responsible management of licensed venues course has been developed and
implemented to:

  • ensure that prospective licensees and approved managers (and other industry
    participants) have an avenue to learn about their responsibilities
  • assist applicants for licences to demonstrate their level of knowledge to the
    Commissioner for Liquor and Gaming
  • reduce the negative impact of poor management practices upon the community.

 

The course objectives are to:

  • inform licensees, approved managers and managers of their responsibilities under the Liquor Act
  • provide a range of management strategies to assist in the responsible operation of a licensed venue
  • encourage licensees, approved managers and managers to use risk management and self-audit processes for the continued safe and responsible operation of their business.

 

As the course targets licensees and approved managers and applicants for licences and manager’s approvals, it is specifically designed with a management focus. The course not only provides details of the law and liquor licence requirements, it also includes a range of management strategies to assist operators in the responsible conduct of their business.

To complete this course, you need:

A unique email address: This email address cannot be used by another student as it becomes your unique login username.

Current Identification: You must have valid photo identification (must not be expired more than 3 months). Acceptable photo identification can include: Passport photo page, driver’s license, Key Pass, Photo Card, and student photo ID card (must include date of birth).

Once you log in to the system, you will be prompted to upload a copy of your photo identification.

Technology: Ensure you have a device with a camera and microphone so you can participate in the training.

Please Note: the RMLV training session may be recorded and used as evidence of attendance. You will need to have your camera on and be 100% visible for the full duration of the course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Valid in QLD only. 

Yes, after you complete your RMLV course, you will need to submit Form 82 to OLGR to apply to become an Approved Manager.

This form is also used for other purposes e.g., Gaming Nominee, Keno employee etc. So, just tick the box for ‘Liquor Approved Manager’.

While it does seem completely non-sensical that the RMLV and the Approved Managers card does not expire at the same time – the reason seems to be that OLGR want you to attend the RMLV course every three (3) years to keep up to date with law changes and to ensure you review your alcohol management policies and practices in your venue more regularly.

Unfortunately, no, there is no RMLV Refresher course available. If your RMLV has expired, you must sit the full course again. 

Yes, you need to complete the entire 10-hour course to obtain your RMLV certificate. If you are unable to sit through the full 10-hour course and complete all assessment, you will not be issued your RMLV certificate. 

RMLV certificates are valid for three (3) years. After this time, you must renew your certificate by completing the full course again.
