Whether you’re working/volunteering in the Early Childhood Education & Care (ECEC) sector, out of school hours care, in schools, sports and recreation, support work, etc. it’s important (and in many cases legislatively required) to complete child protection training. One of the most serious duties we have when we work/volunteer with children and young people is the obligation to act when we reasonably suspect that a child is in need of protection from abuse or neglect.

One of the most serious duties we have when we work/volunteer with children and young people is the obligation to act when we reasonably suspect that a child is in need of protection from abuse or neglect.
As a person working/volunteering with children and young people, you may be considered a ‘mandatory reporter’ under federal or state legislation, and may be legally required to report to Child Safety where you reasonably suspect that a child:
- has suffered, is suffering, or is at risk of suffering significant harm caused by abuse or neglect
- may not have a parent who is willing and able to protect them from harm.
